Humidity in Your House

Humidity describes the amount of water vapor in the air. The humidity level in your house is important for your comfort, but also for your house.

Dry air below 40% relative humidity (short: RH) will dry out your sinuses and will make you more prone to catch a cold. It also will dry out and shrink the wood in your house, resulting in cracked hardwood floors and furniture. Moist air above 60% RH will make you feel hot and sweaty, and the excess moisture can condensate in cold spots at the walls, causing water damage and mold.

Therefore it is recommended to keep the indoor moisture between 40% and 60% RH.
